Travelling by Car

There are three car and passenger ferries to the Island.  The nearest to Binstead is the Wightlink service that runs between Portsmouth and Fishbourne, about a mile from us.  Red Funnel runs a service between Southampton and East Cowes, about 15 minutes from Binstead by car. There is also a Wightlink ferry between Lymington and Yarmouth in the west of the Island. Bookings for all of these are recommended, and are essential in high season.

Travelling by Foot

As well as travelling as a foot passenger on the car ferries, there are three faster ferries for foot-passengers only.  Two of these run between Portsmouth and Ryde:  the Wightlink Fastcat catarmaran from Portsmouth Harbour Station, and the Hovertravel hovercraft from Southsea.  The third ferry is the Red Funnel catarmaran from Southampton to West Cowes.

By Car  or  Cycle

From Fishbourne follow the traffic along Fishbourne Lane to the traffic lights.  Turn left on to the A3054.  After 1/2 mile, at the top of a hill the speed limit changes to 30 mph, and you will find a mini-roundabout.  This is the beginning of Binstead.  Turn left into Church Road.  About 10 yards in on the left-hand side of the road you will see a private, shared drive.  Go to the end of this.  We are the big house with a large, pebbled forecourt for parking.

From East Cowes take the A3021. After 2 miles you will come to a big roundabout.  Turn left towards Ryde on to the A3054.  Continue through Wootton Bridge.  After 1/2 mile at traffic lights you will see the well-labelled Fishbourne ferry turn-off on your left. Go straight past this.  Then follow the directions above.

From Ryde take the A3054 west towards Wootton and Newport.  After about a mile, you will be passing through Binstead, at the end of which is an obvious hill.  At the top of this hill is a mini-roundabout.  Turn right here.    About 10 yards in on the left-hand side of the road you will see a private, shared drive.  Go to the end of this.  We are the big house with a large, pebbled forecourt for parking.

From elsewhere take the A3054 until you can use one of the above directions.

By Bus

The local bus company is called Southern Vectis.  It has a reasonably helpful web-site, showing both bus routes and timetables.  I have also put the direct links for each journey below.

From Ryde the No. 9 bus leaves from the esplanade between the pier and the hovercraft terminal.  Ask for Binstead War Memorial at the top of Binstead Hill.  The bus-stop is by the mini-roundabout mentioned above.  Church Road is across the main road.  No 9 timetable.  The map is at Ryde bus routes.  Alternatively there is a taxi rank near the pier.

From East Cowes take the No. 4 bus from outside the ferry terminal.  Ask for Binstead War Memorial at the top of Binstead Hill.  The bus-stop is along Newnham Road, a right-turn at the mini-roundabout mentioned above.  Church Road is on the opposite side of the roundabout.  No.4 Timetable.  Cowes Bus Routes.

From West Cowes take the No. 1 bus, which leaves from the ferry terminal, to Newport bus station.  Change there to a No.9. Ask for Binstead War Memorial at the top of Binstead Hill.  The bus-stop is just down from the mini-roundabout mentioned above.  Church Road is on the same side of the road.  No.1 TimetableNo 9 timetable.
Alternatively the fit and unladen can walk half a mile to the Floating Bridge between West and East Cowes.  Once across this, catch the No. 4 bus as above; this will result in a shorter journey.  Both of these alternatives can be seen on the map at Cowes Bus Routes.

Once you are in Church Road, about 10 yards in on the left-hand side you will see a private, shared drive.  Go to the end of this.  We are the big house with a large, pebbled forecourt.

Click on www.multimap.com for a good map that shows where we are.  This map site can display maps at different scales, so it can also be used as a road map for getting here, and for planning any excursions on the island.
