Welcome to the Sillwood Acre web-site

Sillwood Acre is a large Victorian house, built in 1856 and set in one acre of informal gardens.  We have been open for B&B in Binstead since 1994, offering large, comfortable rooms and a relaxed, quiet, friendly atmosphere.  There is ample off-road car parking.  Binstead is situated on the outskirts of Ryde, on the road to Fishbourne and Wootton.  We are just a few minutes by car from the Portsmouth-Fishbourne car ferry terminal, and convenient for the Ryde passenger ferry and hovercraft, with bus-stops within 100 yards.

Rooms

There are two double and one twin rooms, all en suite with central heating. One room has an optional adjoining single room.

All are non-smoking.

We are open all year.  We take children over 5 years old, but no pets.

Things to Do

Within a mile of us are: Quarr Abbey, both the current one and the ruins of the original; Ryde golf course; and Brickfields "Horse Country".  A little further takes you to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet, or to the town of Ryde, with its sandy beaches and shallow water ideal for swimming.  An even better beach is further along the coast in Seaview.  Ryde also boasts a heated swimming pool, bowling green, pitch and putt, boating lake, ten-pin bowling alley, dotto train, marina, cinema and nightclub.  It has the oldest and second longest pier in the country, though this is used only for the Wightlink catamaran and other boats.  There is also a Tourist Information Centre for information on places of interest, tickets for theatres and events, and gifts.

Further afield there are many attractions to visit.  Two of the most popular are Osborne House, the country retreat of Queen Victoria, in East Cowes, and Carisbrooke Castle, near Newport. There is also a good network of bridleways, cycle paths and footpaths.

We have maps, leaflets and guide books available for you to use.
